Your Worst Nightmare/ My Dream

The Assignment: Monster Chiller Horror Theatre 3D GIF (Four Stars)

The Story: I love cats but my brother does not and he is allergic to them. The GIF I created is likely what he sees in his nightmares… or whenever he comes to my apartment.

The How-To: The assignment suggests looking to this page for inspiration/examples of films that would work for this assignment. Since I am an admitted cat addict, I was drawn to the movie titled “house of cats”. I did a YouTube search for that film and found this clip from the movie. I noticed that at 2:29 a character is holding a cat to and fro from the camera, creating the “coming out at you” effect required of this assignment. I had initially saved a four second clip of this scene and tried to upload it to Giphy. That did not work, so instead I copied the URL for the YouTube video and posted it. I did this by hitting the create button on Giphy, and then pasting the video’s URL into the bottom box (screenshot below).

That allowed me to have access to the full video in 3-4 second increments. I then selected the area of the video I wanted to animate (2:29-2:32) and went over to the filters tab. I added a filter titled “bad TV” because I felt like it matched the aesthetic of the film and I liked how the distorted colors played off of the “coming out at you”effect. Once I was satisfied with my GIF, I uploaded it to my Giphy page which allowed me to embed it in this post (without having to post it elsewhere).
